➤ L-Arginine

L-Arginine is an amino acid, created by the body, and found in many common foods (nuts and meats for example). Although few people are likely to have an actual arginine deficiency (which has numerous symptoms), it is possible that a greater amount of arginine may be beneficial in many ways. Among its many functions, the body uses arginine to create nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels and is essential for having and maintaining an erection. Viagra® functions primarily by preventing the breakdown of nitric oxide; L-Arginine helps assure that you have sufficient nitric oxide to begin with. A study of arginine showed improved sexual function in men who had low levels of nitric oxide. L-arginine is also used to address sexual dysfunction in women. It may also be beneficial in support of the immune system, the liver, and the heart and circulatory system, and may help lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

➤ L-Carnitine

L-Carnitine is considered both an amino acid and a B vitamin. Like arginine, it is found in many foods, especially meat, and is also produced by the body. Studies of men with medically related erectile issues found that the combination of carnitine supplementation and Viagra was more effective than Viagra alone. Another study showed that carnitine supplementation has benefits similar to and generally superior to testosterone supplementation when treating the symptoms of ED, without problems associated with testosterone supplementation (i.e. prostate enlargement). Yet another study showed that carnitine has benefits to male fertility. In addition, among other things, helpful to both men and women, carnitine may also help lower cholesterol, may be beneficial for brain function, and may help battle fatigue and assist in weight loss or muscle building, as it helps convert fat to energy.

➤ Deer Antler Velvet

Deer antler velvet is humanely harvested from the antlers of live deer. The antler velvet contains a wide range of nutrients and growth factors, and has been used by the Chinese for thousands of years for many purposes, including treatment of impotence. One study suggested that deer antler velvet raises testosterone levels. Besides its use in addressing sexual issues (in both men and women), antler velvet has also been recommended for immune system strength, and to support healthy joints, among other things.

We use New Zealand deer antler velvet because of its reputation for consistent high quality and the country's concern for the welfare of the animals.

"Male deer grow antlers each year...After about 60 days, the antler begins to calcify from the base upwards. The velvet is harvested between the 45th and 60th days, under anaesthetic by a veterinarian or a trained and registered person who has passed tests established and overseen by Deer Industry New Zealand. Their technique and welfare and care of animals are assessed annually." (Source)

➤ Maca

Maca is a vegetable root from Peru. Although most studies have been done with animals (including a demonstration of improved sexual function in rats), there have been human studies as well, associating maca with increased libido and higher sperm count. In addition to addressing sexual issues (in both men and women), maca is believed to have a variety of other potential health benefits.

Maca fact sheet

The short version: Why are these ingredients good for optimum sexual health?
For men, the l-arginine helps your body create the nitric oxide needed to enhance the blood flow essential for strong sexual performance. (In fact, Viagra® functions primarily by preventing the breakdown of nitric oxide.) L-Carnitine has been shown to have benefits similar to those of testosterone without the drawbacks of testosterone supplementation (it has also been shown to enhance the function of Viagra). Deer antler velvet is a traditional Chinese herbal treatment for sexual issues, and maca is a widely used herbal libido enhancer.
